Life on the road is exciting, each day is new and the time passes quick. The past 10 months have been a whirlwind of great experiences, fantastic people and exceptional riding but today I was as tired as I been in some time. After a short ride and a memorable reunion with my dog Jack I settled down with family content and satisfied about the journey… and thinking about when the next one might happen.
My head was heavy when I woke and I dreaded the drive I had for just that reason. If it wasn’t for family waiting I might have stayed in bed and passed another day in the city but I got up, cursed Ryan for all the beer he forced me to drink and grabbed a shower. I left well after nine and rode northeast towards my parents home in Antigonish where my best friend Jack was waiting for me.
I stopped in Truro along the way for a coffee and more McDonald’s WiFi. The cookie cutter appearance and smells of the fast food chain was identical to all of the other countries I had visited with the exception of the seasonal special served inside.

McLobster! Only in Atlantic Canada.
It would be another hour riding from there and when I got close to town I made a quick call to my father about where I was. He asked me to hold back a bit so he could be at the house to meet me. He wanted to see the dogs reaction and after he got to the house I pulled in.
313 days had past since I last saw my parents home and they took my most precious possession into there care and looked out for him. It was this type of generosity and interest that my entire family gave me and made the trip possible. With out them and the help of many friends it just wouldn’t have happened.

As usual some nieces and nephews trickled over from next door and and clambered up on the bike and peppered me with questions about the trip. My parents welcomed me back with a big meal and a told me a few stories about their year and the antics of the dog.

Cyra having the last ride of the day
After a big meal things started to calm down and my niece Elyssa and I crawled down on the mat for some quality time with Jack.

Hanging out with Jack and Elyssa
The evening shot by after everyone found there way home and things at the house got quiet. It was then I started to realize what the next few weeks have in store.
The coming days will wear away catching up, preparing to go back to work and sorting out life’s daily grind but tonight I put that on hold and fell back into a days end habit I had developed over my time on the road…
I dreamt about where the next ride would be.

OK. I haven’t written for a bit but I couldn’t resist writing on this post… The Reunion video with Jack brought tears to my eyes (love that dog!). Well done to you, Lenny, on making the trip of your dreams a reality. Most would not have had the guts to drop everything and make it happen… they would just sit and complain about their life. You made it back relatively unscathed, most likely totally financially and physically spent to find that nothing has changed but you. Enjoy the family, the dog and the summer at home.
Thanks Andrea. The posts and comments throughout the trip did not go unnoticed. Thanks for the kind words and all your support.
It’s great to see that Jack’s not the sort of fellow to hold a grudge. Congratulations on a trip well done. We’re looking forward to the sequel!
That’s a great friend. Just like you and Cindy.
Thanks for all you did to make the site what it is Paul. Without your expertise and talents putting things together it just wouldn’t have happened.
Len:
Absolutely EPIC in every way Len…. I have to say tho, this sucks, cause it is ending for me too, lol. Great job on the web site, it was a pleasure following along, you were the topic at a few coffee breaks…. When does the book come out? Good luck getting back into the daily grind, looks like Jack will help with that tho….that is one happy puppy dog…..take care and thanks.
Wayne
Thanks Wayne. I thought that was a cockroach biting my year but they were just burning for the coffee talk on the island.
Have a great summer and ride fast.
Thats the video ive been waiting for. Im just so glad that you are back home safe and sound and your dog is no longer depressed
Thanks Jules. I have to admit it was a moment I have been waiting to experience for the past few weeks.
Nice to see you back in Antigonish! As you were finishing, I started following my brother-in-law on his bicycle trip across Canada. You don’t realize how fast you were covering ground! I really enjoyed experiencing your blog and replaced the newspaper with your experiences. You may need counseling to get back to work.
I was considering some mental health assistance but the dog has stepped up and listen to me babble.
Thanks for the support.
Cheers to you Mr. MacDonald. We all enjoyed the ride. However, the greatest moment for me was watching your Dad and Mom with camera, take in their two boys reuniting. It’s quality time with JACK now.
It was certainly a nice feeling.
Sorry I missed you but we’ll talk soon.
Take care Judy.
It’s been quite an adventure for you and it was fun to follow along. Will be fun to see you when you get back here one day.
Bravo Zulu
Thanks Andrew. We’ll get out for a ride soon I’m sure.
Kudos!
Thanks Lori.
I enjoyed the adventure along with you! I haven’t posted often but thought I would add something to final page. Well done my friend! You handled everything with the utmost of class and it was a pleasure reading the stories of the people, places, food, beer, and ole Nelly. Next adventure may have to be a European one.
Nice idea. We are thinking the same thing.
Welcome back Lenny,
Drop me an email when you get settled and let me know how things go work wise. What an adventure you have had. We enjoyed following along, getting updates to know you were safe and of course, watching you have the time of your life ( so far).
Talk to you soon,
The Butler Family
Thanks Chad. It was a really special start to the trip and you, Hali and the kids got me on the road in style.
Cheers.
You’ve done it! Congratulations Lenny. Thanks for stopping by our house, taking Raeley for ice cream and for making us a part of this amazing journey. Since then, we’ve been hooked. I’m not sure that you know just exactly how many people have been rooting for you through this whole thing or not, but I’ll tell you what, more than once both Chad and I were caught saying “Man, I’d love to do this someday” and other times “he’s nuts!!” But thanks for taking the time to document this ride like you have so that all of us could join you. It’s been amazing.
Welcome home.
P.S. Raeley is desperate to know when you might make a stop here again… “their Lenny” is never far from their minds.
Ah!! My girl Raeley.
It was great seeing you guys in Portage la Prairie but already miss everyone. I’ll chat with you all soon.
Lenny
Congratulations! What a beautiful reunion with Jack. I too had a tear in my eye.Thank you for documenting your journey, and allowing us to follow from home. Selfishly I’m not sure what I’ll read while having my breakfeast. What an adventure you had, and I look forward to you next ride. Once again congratulations!! All the best, and take care!
It was my pleasure Rhonda. Thanks for the kind words.
Not sure where to post this, but take good care of the KTM. It was great to meet you, you lived every bikers dream. Carry on.
It sure was a great time doing it as well. Thanks for the great hospitality Jim. Talk with you again soon.
Great adventure Len, loved watching every bit of it.
Thanks Jacob. I’m really happy to hear that you liked it. Hopefully I’ll catch up with you and your Dad soon.
You did it!!!…….Amber and I are very happy you made it back safe and sound, and happy to see you and Jack are back together!!
A few days early and a couple post light but I’m back safe and sound. Thanks again for all the help Andy. It was great seeing you and Amber in Laconia. I’ll talk with you soon.
Congratulations on completing an epic adventure. Thanks for keeping up with the blog. I know that can be difficult at times. At the end of your journey I had the same feeling I get after reading a good book. Happy that you made it and disappointing I don’t get to read about your trip anymore. Thanks for taking us along. I’m looking forward to the next adventure. Hopefully our paths will cross at some point.
Gus
Thanks Gus. It was tough at times to sit down and write but I’m sure glad I have it now. I’m flattered to know that there were people out there interested in what was happening. Thanks for the kind words and here’s to Part II in a few years.
Len,
I’m glad to hear the trip all went well. We are having a big bash at the River on July 7th, we will save you a spot on the “pool table” if you can make it. As I said before, even if you don’t get back this year you always have an open invite. Hopefully you get to do another journy in you near futue.
Tony
Hey, hey Tony. How are things on the Hudson river tonight. Great to hear from you and thanks for the offer. I just came in from another four day adventure to Northern Ontario and I’m beat. I think I may have one more good ride in me this season and if it takes me to your area I’ll give you a call.
Thanks for everything you did to help me along.
Don’t you ever get tired? Just got home and you are off again on another adventure, I guess I am too much of a home body to understand, and I don’t think my ass could take it. How does the new bike handle? I hope you are not regretting your decision.
Well Len, I guess your new theme song is Alan Doyle’s “I’ve seen a little but it ain’t enough”! We’ve enjoyed the trip – let us know if a new destination and blog springs up…. All the best to you and Jack as you start a new job posting. There’s always a jar of rose hip jelly waiting if you get back this way
Welcome back! Your reunion with Jack was so great to see – he always knew you’d be back! I’m sure your mom and dad will miss his company! Easing back to work will be interesting, I’m sure – are you back in the same place?
Thanks for keeping us all up to speed on your adventure!
Lisa
Home safe. Well done
Welcome home. I am most envious of your trip and look forward to my own. Hope to meet with you either at the WharfRat rally or Thunder In the Hylands. I am currently in Toronto finishing up a course and will be back in Halifax by July 16 on the Tenere 1200 which I am most enjoying.
David
