In retrospect it wasn’t the best idea I have ever had. The visa application for Suriname went extraordinarily quick and I decided to leave Cayenne for the border. Smoke must have been coming out of my ears because it was the fire department that ended up coming to my rescue.

The firehouse was active early and I went to get my passport and bike stamped into the country. I hit the road at about 9AM heading to Paramaibo with hopes of finding a place to stay and taking a rest. I was less then 10 minutes out of Albina when I saw the mess I had been racing through in the dark the night before and was relieved I had decided to turn back when I did.

You win some and you lose some in an old sports world axiom. I had great luck with border officials in the last few countries and it was time for the other shoe to drop. I had anticipated things would go smoothly in Guyana as well but my luck had run out and this was one of those borders like in Central America that I was gonna have to work a little to get through.
